How long can the Pack avoid Aaron Rodgers as starter?

Brett's back in 2007

Thoughts, anyone?

Leland, I think the truth is that this is the best possible thing that could have happened to Aaron Rodgers. There is a proven track record of players who have had to sit the bench behind pro-bowl caliber quarterbacks for at least three years. Steve Young, Matt Hasselback, Trent Green, even a young kid that came out of the niners organization named Brett Favre. I think that this Farewell Tour that Brett will take this year totally removes Aaron Rodgers from the pressure cooker that he could have found himself in had he become the starter this year and here's why.
1. The Packers are NOT going to go get the necessary pieces that they need to be extremely competitive this season. Favre shot himself in the foot when he announced so early that he was coming back. By doing so, the Packers organization know that fans will avidly support the season whether or not the team wins. He should have waited a couple months and let the front office make a couple of free agent moves.

2. Because this is Favre's final season Rodgers gets to prepare knowing his role over the next two years. Not many players get this luxury. He will prepare harder knowing that it will be him in the hotseat just one season later.

3. If Favre should be injured this season, (I know it seems impossible, but it would be fitting for a guy who's never been hurt to have to deal with injury his final season), Rodgers gets to step in as the backup. Not the guy who's expected to start and win every week, but the backup. That will give him a great amount of freedom and release from the powder keg that can be Packer Fans.

All in all I think it's a win, win, win for the Packers, Favre, and Rodgers. Plus hey, who can't wait to see Favre throw 3 interceptions in one half and come back to lead the game winning drive in the last 15 seconds of the game. It's that Jeckyll and Hyde playing that caused us to follow him in the first place!
